Ben Carson - Housing and Urban Development
Ben Carson has absolutely no previous experience qualifying him to be the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He is a fantastic neurosurgeon, most well known for his work separating conjoined twins. He was a Republican presidential candidate briefly in the 2016 election. Other than that he no experience in politics or government. The sad thing is, he is likely to be approved by Congress with little push-back. One congressman who is one the committed assigned to approve Carson said “He has medical experience … he’ll pick it up so fast their heads will be spinning.” Another said that “If you can get a brain surgeon that wants to run housing, that’s a good idea.” Carson intends to pursue a very different agenda than the current Housing and Urban Development Department. He plans on making it harder for people to receive assisted housing, and institute tougher work requirements for people in subsidized housing.
Rick Perry - Energy
Rick Perry was the governor of Texas for 14 years, and in that time he made Texas the number one producer of fossil fuels. He firmly believes that oil is the future and that global warming does not exist. He does have lots of experience dealing with energy, so his experience is not the problem. His problem is he does not believe in global warming, or that the energy department should even exist. In 2012 while running for president, he said he believed it was an unnecessary deparment he would try to eliminate as president. Perry will likely get approved by Congress, as long as they do not see a conflict of interest with him sitting on the board of a major oil company based out of Dallas. Perry’s positions are polar opposites of his predecessors Ernest Moniz and Steven Chu. He will try to undo everything they did to prevent global warming.
Betsy DeVos - Education
Betsy DeVos ran the American Federation for Children, which is an organization that promotes the spread of charter schools all across America. She is qualified for her position because she has at least been involved in decisions affecting education. The New York Times says that “‘He (Trump) is building an administration that looks a whole lot like himself,’ said Senator Patty Murray of Washington, the senior Democrat on the committee that will handle the nominations of Ms. DeVos, who married into the Amway fortune, as education secretary.” DeVos will get through Congress very easily, she is praised by many members of congress for her work with charter schools. The current administration it against charter schools, they believe it is better to make all public schools equal instead of giving the money to parents and let them decide where to send their kids. DeVos will more than likely rehaul that policy completely and favor charter schools heavily.
