Eyes on the Prize - Zoe Lydon

One thing that stuck out to me in the documentary is the persistence of the protesters throughout the Montgomery bus boycott. Even though their jobs and families depended on them they understood that their participation in the boycott was more important. The boycott would only be successful if the majority of African-American bus riders participated. The video showed protesters walking in bad weather and walking long distances. They willingly sacrificed what was for many of them their only form of transportation. It amazed me to see how much these demonstrators gave up in order to participate in the boycott. They understood that their contribution would make a difference in the future for themselves and future generations. They put the cause before themselves. The reason the boycott was effective was because of consistency and regularity of the boycott. This stuck out to me because I’m not sure I would be able to sacrifice my only form of transportation. The people who participated in the boycott were noble and all equally contributed to the end of segregation on buses.
