Eyes on the Prize Natalie Lovinger

The death of Emmet Till greatly effected the black community all across America. There is a video clip that is shown multiple times during the movie of black people coming to look at Emmet Till's body in his casket. There is one woman who faints from the sight of his body, completely mutilated by his murderers. The reaction of the woman and the larger black community to Emmet Till's death reminds me of the reaction to the murder of Trayvon Martin. The country, but especially the black community, was shocked by the racist murder of an innocent teenager. Taking to the streets, people protested Martin's death in a similar way to how civil rights activists protested Till's. The similarities between the murders of two young black boys and the outrage they caused are moving, showing that history really can repeat.
