Jeff Sessions, the former Alabama Senator, appointed as Trump's attorney general, would have large impacts on the justice department. Firstly dealing with the incarceration rate in the United States and analyzing it as a whole. Becoming concerned with the deceasing rate of prisoners, but the rising number of violent crimes is a topic he plans to address. Another area Sessions is eager to acknowledge is local policing. An anti-police stance from President Obama, especially in cases like Ferguson, Missouri, is not what Sessions is going for. He has been endorsed by organizations: "The Fraternal Order of Police, the National Sheriffs Association, and the International Union of Police Associations." In Sessions effort to increase police involvement, he also wants to strengthen the anti-drug community and bring back the severity on par with the Reagan era of drug enforcement. He is quoted last March saying, "Drug use is surging, and deaths are occurring, and in my opinion it's going to get worse." Sessions will no doubt bring change to the justice department in the US, for better or for worse.
