Eyes on the Prize- Nuala Brennan

The death of Emmett Till was the most powerful part of the movie for me. Not only did they do a great job explaining the situation, but they also showed his body and his mother's reaction as well as the rest of the community. It was really easy to see how big an impact it made on the black community due to all the people that showed up to his funeral, one woman literally fainted at the sight of his beaten body. It was also really powerful to hear everybody's reactions to the incident. The first-hand opinion and reaction we got from the interviews in the movie really helped m=paint the picture and help me understand HOW the incident was one of the sparks of the Civil Rights Movement as a whole. It is similar to how the death of Trayvon Martin sparked the Black Lives Matter movement. Incidents like both of these have happened thousands of times, but the publicity both incidents got and the impact they had on the world are what made them spark such powerful movements, they were eye-opening.
