What if Clinton Loses?

http://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2016-10-07/what-will-happen-to-the-democratic-party-if-clinton-loses-the-election?emailed=1&src=usn_thereport

The one thing that nobody wants to think about; what if Hillary Clinton doesn't become the next President of the United States?
The author of this article is arguing that if Trump wins, the Republican dominated government will cause the Democratic party to come crashing down. One reason is because if she loses, millennials will lose hope in the Democrats and abandon the party. Another reason is because the Democrats will have to reevaluate policy and big issues like moving from worrying about abortion rights to worrying about job creation. She also says that a loss will decrease the number of Democratic potential candidates next time. Essentially, she's giving reasons why Clinton losing would mes everything up for Dems.
This election makes me think about how we are currently living in one of those defining moments in history. The outcome of this election is so important, and has so many far reaching ramifications that we'll be seeing for years to come, no matter who wins. What do you think the future looks like for independent candidates running for POTUS?

Clinton Gaining Popularity Among Millennials

This article focuses on Hillary  Clinton’s relationship with the millennial Voting base, and why some millennials still won’t vote for her. Most millennials wanted Bernie Sanders to be President, because this is a very liberal generation. When he lost the nomination, a lot of young people said that they were “Bernie or Bust”, or that they would be voting for a third party candidate like Jill Stein. A lot of young voters don’t understand that a vote that isn’t for Hillary is essentially a vote for Trump at this point, because we cannot let Trump become the leader of the free world. This relates to things we’re talking about in AP Gov when we talk about voices and whose voice is being heard or ignored. The author of this article argues that while it's good that Clinton is gaining momentum among millennial voters, who are about 20% of the voting population, the actual problem is getting people to go out and vote. Lots of people are saying that they won't vote because they have to go with their conscience. Do you think going with your conscience is a better option than voting for someone you don't fully support, even if that means helping Donald Trump into the White House?

Hunting Ground Response Lauren Davis

The ways that we can raise awareness of sexual assault are numerous. First of all, when someone tells you that they've been assaulted, you need to believe them. Also, enforcing the concept of consent and that ONLY yes means yes. I think it's important to hold people accountable for their actions as well. Sexual assault is the only crime where the perpetrators are protected and the victims are questioned. We have to stop teaching our kids that "boys will be boys" and start teaching them that boys can and will be held accountable for their actions.

It's On Us is a nationwide campaign supported by President Barack Obama that aims to bring awareness to the issue of sexual assault. Their key objectives are "to RECOGNIZE that non-consensual sex is sexual assault. To IDENTIFY situations in which sexual assault may occur. To INTERVENE in situations where consent has not or cannot be given. To CREATE an environment in which sexual assault is unacceptable and survivors are supported." Since this is a program started by the white house, there isn't really funding because it's only a social media campaign. However, through the Violence Against Women Act, over $400 million of funding is provided each year through more than 20 different national grant programs, which are administered by the Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women, to reduce domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. It's On Us has gotten positive press, especially because it's endorsed by several different celebrities.

Presidential Debate- Lauren Davis

The winner of this presidential debate is clear. Hillary Clinton won because she had facts that were true, and because she knows way more about being a president and responding to people like Donald Trump.
One thing Trump did that caused him to lose in my opinion is the fact that he would always deflect questions that he needed to answer (about taxes for example) with Clinton's email scandal. He spent so much time attacking Clinton personally that it seemed as if he had nothing else to talk about. Another weakness of his was not appealing to voters of color. He said that he wanted to re institute the unconstitutional policy of stop and frisk, which is basically a way to racially profile. If there was anything Trump did well, it was making sure that he was heard. Even though that meant interrupting the moderator and Clinton, he made sure that he got his points across.

In my opinion, Clinton did well with saying why Trump was bad. She talked about the birth certificate scandal as well as Trump's many failures. She also made the good choice of taking responsibility for her private email account, which shows that she can take responsibility for her actions.
